Statue of Liberty

Reimagining
the Museum on
Ellis Island

The Statue of Liberty-Ellis Island Foundation is reimagining the 30-year-old museum on Ellis Island to tell the broader history of American immigration, bringing the narrative up through the present day. The renovations and updated exhibits will educate and engage by making empathetic connections across centuries of history.

Restoring and Preserving

A History of Success

The non-profit Statue of Liberty-Ellis Island Foundation collaborates with the National Park Service in one of America’s most successful public-private partnerships. In 1982, President Ronald Reagan asked Lee Iacocca to raise private funds for the historic restoration of the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island. The Foundation has since created the museum on Ellis Island, developed the free 65-million-record Ellis Island Passenger Database, constructed the Statue of Liberty Museum, and funded hundreds more projects on the islands.
