About the Foundation

Established in 1982, The Statue of Liberty-Ellis Island Foundation was created to restore and preserve these two great national monuments. The Foundation is committed to fostering, promoting and stimulating public knowledge of and interest in the history of the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island. The organization, in partnership with the National Park Service, maintains custody and control of records, relics and other things of history interest related to the Statue of Liberty and the millions of immigrants who entered the U.S. via the Port of New York.

The Foundation works hand-in-hand with the National Park Service (NPS; a unit of the United States Department of the Interior) to preserve the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island. We work to identify the monuments’ needs, and raise funds to ensure the public can enjoy the parks’ natural and cultural resources.
